Margit and Bob Dinda Educational Foundation
In September 2015, Bob Dinda, a club member since 2010 and a Rotarian since 1972, challenged the Oceanside Rotary club to augment their current scholarship program through match of his $50,000 donation, if the club raised the match in one year's time. The club accepted the challenge! A committee was established to manage the Margit and Bob Dinda Educational Foundation chaired by the acting Oceanside Rotary Club President. Fletcher High School students who meet certain requirements will be eligible to apply for scholarships.
Bob’s late wife, Margit, was from Germany, where obtaining an education was very difficult. She had a strong desire for an education and enrolled in adult education classes at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. The courses proved very challenging at first as Margit failed classes but she persevered with Bob’s encouragement and graduated in seven years with a degree in English and all A’s in her final year.
